LMC Announces Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Whittaker Apartments

The Whittaker 0001
LMC, a leader in apartment development and operations, today announced the opening of The Whittaker, a mixed-use apartment community located in the Alaska Junction commercial district of West Seattle.
The community features 389 apartment homes and 70,000 square feet of retail space, anchored by a Whole Foods Market. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the community was held on Dec. 8, commemorating the opening of the south building, which contains 129 apartment homes. The north building (260 apartment homes) will open in summer 2017. The ceremony featured several prominent local figures, including Lynn Dennis, CEO of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and Jim Whittaker, the first American to reach the summit of Mt. Everest and the inspiration for the name of the community. "Much like Mr. Whittaker, who climbed the highest peak in the world, Seattle and the Pacific Northwest are symbols of resilience and innovation, and we believe our new community reflects that spirit," said Brad Reisinger, divisional president of the Pacific Northwest Region for LMC. "We are thrilled to join such a fantastic neighborhood in one of our region's most picturesque locations, and we look forward to developing our resident base with the fantastic people of West Seattle.

Whittaker, who reached the summit of Mt. Everest on May 1, 1963, also was the first fulltime employee and CEO of Recreational Equipment Inc., better known as REI. The building design was inspired by Whittaker and aimed to blend modern living with the outdoor ruggedness of the Pacific Northwest, including natural materials, outdoor-inspired finishes and open-air gathering spaces. Tracy Cilona, owner of nearby Twilight Gallery, also was in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Twilight Gallery teamed with local artist Megan Lingerfelt to recreate the area's famous "Alki in the Twenties" mural along an outdoor wall of The Whittaker. The original mural, which can be found at Fauntleroy Way and SW Edmunds St., depicts a vintage Chevy and a panoramic view of the Alki neighborhood. Situated at 4755 Fauntleroy Way SW, The Whittaker benefits from a centralized location steps from the eclectic West Seattle Junction, surrounded by a rain garden, prominent public artwork and meticulously landscaped sidewalks. The community, built in collaboration with Weingarten Realty Investors, is commuter friendly and sits less than four miles from the West Seattle Bridge. The bridge serves as the gateway to Route 99 and Interstate 5, key thoroughfares to Downtown Seattle and the sprawling metro area. The Whittaker is pet friendly and consists of studio, 1-, and 2-bedroom apartments. Community amenities include a fitness center, yoga studio, wine room, package room, a large courtyard on the third floor and two rooftop decks with views of Mt. Rainier, Elliott Bay and Downtown Seattle. Apartment interiors feature stainless steel appliance, quartz countertops, tile backsplashes and wood-style plank flooring.
