Associate Spotlight: Matthew Press, Assistant Manager
Matthew Press, Leasing Manager* at The Whitney in Fort Lauderdale, launched his multifamily management career in 2013 and has called South Florida home for his entire life. His pride in his work and his community are unparalleled.
Matthew, two-time Leasing Elites winner, has been an important part of The Whitney’s many successes including: LMC President’s Club recognition, Best Online Presence Circle of Excellence Award from the South East Florida Apartment Association, and ORA Power Rankings listed The Whitney at the top of its ratings in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties in 2019.
Press, who previously was part of our team at Boca City Walk, currently attends Broward College, and took some time out his very busy day to answer a few questions:
What is your official title and job description? How long have you been with LMC?
In 2017, I had the opportunity to be a part of the LMC family at Boca City Walk – a property we sold and no longer manage. Although I was only there for a short time, I knew I loved the company and would welcome the opportunity to return. In 2018, I was offered the position of Leasing Manager at The Whitney in Fort Lauderdale, where I have happily been working ever since.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
One of my favorite parts of my job is watching people fall in love with their new home, as well as the community we have built. A lot of our residents come from different parts of the country and in some cases have never visited the city before, let alone the community. When we are able to find a home that is perfect for them, that is a rewarding feeling.
What has been the biggest challenge in the day-to-day operations at your community?
Working with people comes with its challenges. Being able to communicate and have patience with everyone you work with can be difficult at times but a necessary part of our day to day. Keeping an open ear and listening first, as opposed to responding, is something I work on every day.
What's your favorite LMC Core Value?
My favorite LMC Core value is "Pursue the Future." Ever since I was introduced to LMC, I felt that there was an opportunity to be a part of something great. That feeling was confirmed when I attended the Insider Training in 2017. Learning about the history behind the company and the plans for the future made me appreciate LMC that much more. One of the things that I believe makes this possible is the awesome people that work with us. We are always in search of others like us who share a common goal in pursuing the future. Whether it is for the company or our individual careers, our focus is always on how we can grow and be better.
If you could have a super power what would it be and why?
Being able to fly would probably be at the top of my list. Not only would that just be cool in general, but you can pick up and go wherever you want whenever you want. If you have ever been in South Florida traffic, you would understand the value of that.
What is the coolest place you've traveled and why?
I would have to say that one of the coolest places I've been is Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Being from South Florida, it's not every day you get to see mountains and wild animals roaming open plains. There was so much to see and do, I would definitely go back.
