Many apartment professionals start to become enamored with the industry sometime during their college years. For Lauren Kyle, it was much earlier than that. Quarterra’s Brand Manager got her start in the industry at age 17, handling front-desk duties for a multifamily developer.
Before joining Quarterra, Lauren spent four years as a community manager for a student-housing community in Denton, Texas. She dabbled in other industries throughout the years, but her heart always tugged back to multifamily.
Lauren was referred to Quarterra by JoAnn Blaylock, Quarterra Living President. They worked together previously at another property management organization, and as soon as the opportunity presented itself, she made the move to join Blaylock.
Lauren showcased some of her trademark wit that we love so much in answering a handful of questions about her Quarterra experience:
What is your official title and job description?
I joined Quarterra four years ago and serve as Brand Manager. I assist our incredibly talented marketing team with rolling out new initiatives, corporate messaging, event planning and designing promotional materials. I secretly think they hired me because I love spreadsheets and data entry—all the tedium that no one else enjoys the way that I do! I have been called the marketing team “Room Mom” and it is an unofficial title that I wear proudly.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
The people I work with every day are by far my favorite part of working at Quarterra. You can love what you do all day long, but if you don’t love who you work with then nothing else matters. We are truly a family here, and I consider myself lucky to be a part of it.
What has been the biggest challenge as a brand manager?
Marketing was a completely new world to me when I arrived at Quarterra, and my teammates took the time to show me the magic of marketing. The marketing team really took me under their wing and taught me everything I know about marketing today. Now I cannot imagine doing anything else!
What's your favorite Quarterra Core Value?
Stink at softball. I am terrible at all sports, so I really crush this particular Quarterra Core Value! In all seriousness though, “Help People” is my favorite. It’s what I love most about working in multifamily—helping people find a home they can love and feel comfortable in. Quarterra associates are all amazing at helping each other too. It is a very collaborative place where we all come together to get through challenges.
If you could have a super power what would it be and why?
I would want the ability to fly so I could travel anywhere, anytime I wanted. The thought of never again sitting in Dallas traffic would be a nice perk, as well. I have also always wanted a Harry Potter-style cloak of invisibility, but now I am just getting greedy.
What is the coolest place you've traveled and why?
Budapest, Hungary is the coolest place I have been, and I cannot wait to return someday. I have been fortunate enough to travel Europe extensively with my family, and my favorite place on Earth is Budapest. The people are wonderful, and the architecture, history and scenery are amazing.
Quarterra is a very special place to work, largely because of the special people who work here. Our company culture is infused with spirit, enthusiasm, passion, and vitality. Thank you for being an amazing example of that, Lauren!
Above all else, we are committed to quality, communication, and integrity. This applies to the communities we build and lease, and to the relationships we have with our residents and each other. Are you looking for amazing opportunities for career growth at one of America’s leading apartment developers? We are always growing and looking to add amazing people to our Quarterra teams!
