LMC Spotlight: Amber Budney, Regional Property Manager of Florida

After building an impressive résumé since entering the multifamily industry in 2002, Amber Budney joined the LMC team in 2016. She has successfully opened five new communities in the South Florida and Atlanta markets and has been an active participant in developing associate talent in her region.

A Floridian through and through, she first attended Bethel University in Saint Paul, Minn., but after a few cold winters, she returned home to the Sunshine State to graduate from Seminole State College.

She holds a Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) designation and is a member of South East Florida Apartment Association. She has served on various committees throughout her time in the industry, most recently as a member of the Young Professionals Council of South Florida.

What is your official title and job description, and how long have you been with LMC?

My official title is Regional Property Manager of Florida. My job is to support the onsite teams, maintain happy neighbors and beautiful communities while making profitable business decisions for LMC. I continually collaborate with the development team to give an operational perspective for our upcoming communities and research new markets as our portfolio expands. I have been a part of LMC for almost five years and have loved every minute of it!

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

When I joined LMC, I was the first associate in South Florida, which felt like a leap of faith. Fortunately, I was recruited by a few of LMC’s finest. They were able to share the vision for Florida. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made professionally. It landed me the unique opportunity to do the thing I love the most—build teams! Developing associates and watching them realize their professional potential is the best part of what I do in my role. In Florida, there are ample opportunities to do just that.

What has been your biggest challenge as a regional property manager?

Regional Property Manager is a role made for a person who enjoys facing and overcoming challenges. I begin every day knowing there will be challenges and, together with the team, we will beat them. I love it. Accepting the fact that some issues can’t be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction is particularly challenging for me. I always want our residents and associates at LMC to be completely happy.

What is your favorite LMC Core Value?

Do the right thing for the right reason. If that value is followed, everything else falls into place.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Being able to fly has to be on the top of my list. I would fly all over the world, checking out new places to have adventures and meet new people.

What is the coolest place you have traveled to and why?

The coolest place I have traveled to was St. Lucia. It was breathtakingly beautiful. During my visit, I hiked up waterfalls, ziplined through the forest and went swimming at the base of the Pitons. It all seemed pretty surreal. I loved the locals. They take the time to enjoy life to the fullest and don’t seem to understand the concept of being in a rush. Oh, and I was able to hang out with this super hot guy all week … without our kids!
